What We Do With Kitchens
Kitchen projects at Ridgeline Western Construction start by uncovering and correcting key framing issues. We self-perform all kitchen-related framing and carpentry—opening up walls for new layouts, upgrading undersized headers, reinforcing soffits, and installing solid backing for cabinets and stone counters. Water-damaged subfloor near sinks is replaced with moisture-resistant material and every cabinet or appliance has proper support from the start. If expanding into another space, we size beams and headers to carry the load, working from real field measurements, not guesses.
All plumbing or electrical needs—moving drains, sink rough-ins, appliance circuits—are coordinated through our licensed subcontractors. We schedule their work in the right sequence after framing is done, then close up and finish only when every inspection is signed off. This keeps projects running as a single coordinated job, not piecemeal by different trades, so structure and finish interact as built—not as a patched stack of work. Drywall, tiling, and cabinetry are handled following sign-off, and floors never get covered up if a leak or soft spot remains underneath.
Occupied homes are phased with dust containment and access to temporary kitchen setups if needed. We make sure new framing and material deliveries don’t crowd the home, and all changes to the walls or structure are permitted, inspected, and built for California code—including Title 24 insulation or required fire-block. Ridgeline Western Construction is owner-operated by Steven Moreno, a general contractor and framing specialist who is on every project from scope meeting through final walkthrough. Kitchens depend on knowing the load-bearing paths behind each cabinet and wall, especially when layouts change or walls come out. Steven brings structural framing experience to every kitchen job, checking joist direction, subfloor soundness, and verifying which partitions actually carry weight before a single finish is touched. This means problems like undersized headers, sloped floors, or unsupported wet walls are handled up front, not discovered later in the build. Every kitchen project is managed with structure and trade sequencing at the core.

Kitchens in Southern California homes are layered assemblies of framing, plumbing, electrical runs, cabinets, and finish surfaces. Old houses can hide undersized headers over wide kitchen openings, dry rot near sink walls, or subfloors weakened by long-term leaks. Common materials are dimensional lumber for framing, moisture-resistant drywall, plywood subfloors, engineered countertops, and under-cabinet lighting. Permits are nearly always required for kitchen remodels and any wall removal, with inspection of framing, rough plumbing, electrical, insulation, and final finish.
